Strange but true

Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer was created for Montgomery Ward department stores. (Rudolph began in 1939 when the Chicago-based Montgomery Ward company (a chain of department stores) asked one of their writers, 34-year-old Robert L. May, to come up with a Christmas story which could be given away to shoppers as a promotional gimmick. The chain had been been buying and giving away coloring books for Christmas every year. To save money, they wanted to create their own booklet. It was loosely based on the Ugly Duckling.)

Christmas Urban Myth #3

'Xmas' is a modern, disrespectful abbreviation of the word 'Christmas'. (X is a substitute for the Greek, Chi, which was an early church representation of Christ. It has been around for a long time and had no meaning of disrespect.)

Christmas Urban Myth #2

The Bible tells of three wise men who travelled from afar on camels to visit the infant Jesus as he lay in the manger.(Mathew 2:1 tells us: "Now when Jesus was born in Bethlehem of Judaea in the days of Herod the king, behold, there came wise men from the east to Jerusalem . . . ". That is the extent of it. There is no mention of THREE wisemen and no mention of camel! Also, Matt 2:11 states "And when they were come into the house, they saw the young child with Mary his mother, and fell down, and worshipped him . . . ". Note that it mentions a child in a house, rather than a baby in a manger... so this is a postbirth event.)

Christmas Urban Myth #1

Poinsettia plants are poisonous to humans. (The poinsettia poison myth had its origin when a young child of an Army officer in Hawaii died of poisoning, incorrectly assumed to be a poinsettia leaf. A 50 lb. child would have to eat more than 1.25 lbs. or 500 - 600 leaves , according to the POISINDEX Information Service. Handbook of Poisonous and Injurious Plants lists the symptoms of eating Poinsetta as vomiting as a side effect of ingesting otherwise harmless poinsettia leaves.)

Home Sweet Home

Little Annika is home and doing much better! She got home yesterday afternoon with instructions to keep giving her small amounts of liquid and then to try formula and cereal today....assuming everything stayed down......which it has! Jason said this morning she had a good night sleep and was back to "helping" him put things in the dishwasher. Jenn and Jason are still recuperating from lack of sleep. And Jenn? Well, she'll be mourning a little the next few days knowing that we'll be heading to Grove City for Christmas shopping without her (sniff, sniff). We had planned a "sisters weekend" of shopping in the states for Sunday-Tuesday which Jenn's not able to make now. I'm sure she'll send us with her list for Target, Gap, and Bath and Body Works though. And we'll just HAVE to do it again.......hmmmmm, next month??!!!

Thanks for the prayers. Besides losing a bit of her baby fat (it's ok.....she had a bit to spare!!!), Annika will be back to normal in no time!!

Annika "Banana-ka"

Just thought I'd write a little blurb for Miss Annika Banana-ka this aft, as I'm sitting around thinking and praying for her. Jason and Jenn are with her at CHEO today as she has been sick the past few days with some sort of a stomach virus. She hasn't been keeping anything down and was getting quite dehydrated and her 104 fever wasn't going down so the Winchester hospital sent her to CHEO. Last word a few hours ago was that her tummy seemed to be settling down a bit and she was starting to keep a bit of liquid down. Good thing because they tried 7 times, unsuccessfully to get an IV into her little veins!!! Poor little munchkin! I'll just keep praying here that she starts keeping things down!! I'm sure Jenn and Jay will update us again soon. We'll keep you posted.

The Cottage

Here is a cute picture that I took at the cottage of the girls. I thought you all might enjoy it.

SPIRIT DAY: Dress like your hero

Here are the girls all set for Spirit day today.
Madelyn wanted to be Daddy - she even
on an old pair of his glasses that I popped the lens
out of. Lauren went in long brown hair and
a black turtleneck sweater. Can you guess?
Yep, she's Auntie Jen. (She debated going
as pregnant Auntie Jennifer, but she really
wanted to wear the wig!)

Since we are putting up pictures of family members, I thought I would post a funny one of Bear. Do you guys remember this? I was thinking that he should wear for this for the family picture! :)
